It’s not exactly a national holiday, but we like to go all out for Gravy Day on 12th December. It’s a great excuse to start thinking about the fruity, spicy, zesty festive sauces that will make Christmas lunch complete. So don’t forget the gravy – the piece de resistance, the icing on the cake – with all its awesome, saucy goodness that makes the mouth water.
At Quattro Foods we manufacture and distribute sauces of every kind to the retail and wholesale markets. We provide restaurants and food-service businesses with the sauces that complete their menus, and in the run up to Christmas we’re working flat out to get you the perfect gravy. Have you jumped on the gravy train? Why not harness the joy of Gravy Day to get ahead with planning your lunch centrepiece – that gorgeous gravy.
What is Gravy Day?
Legend has it that it all began way back in 1996 when a song called How to Make Gravy by popular Australian singer Paul Kelly hit the charts down under. The lyrics told of a prisoner called Joe, writing letters to his family about longing to be with them at Christmas. That letter was (apparently) written on 12th December, a date which has now become synonymous with the song.
“Who’s gonna make the gravy now?” laments Joe, before instructing his brother on how to make the perfect Christmas gravy.
“Just add flour, salt, a little red wine and don’t forget a dollop of tomato sauce for sweetness and that extra tang,” he says.
In 2008, How to Make Gravy made The Australian magazine’s list of best Australian songs, and with that awesome accolade in mind, the team at Quattro Foods has decided to step up the gravy work and use our expertise to turn our kitchen into a gravy zone.
