What are we celebrating this summer? Our freedom of course! And what better way to celebrate than with the most delicious, fresh and varied street food from around the world – right around the corner from Quattro HQ on the South Coast.
Summer is all about savouring the joyful art of al fresco dining and we’re lucky to have some amazing food festivals on our doorstep, including the Southsea Food Festival. The two-day event is set to return on the 16th and 17th July after a Covid-induced hiatus, for a weekend spotlighting the best of our local food businesses and traders. It takes place every year (except, of course, the last two Covid years) and its popularity is growing as the festival keeps pace with our nation’s growing passion for excellent local fresh food.
With over 40 food and drink stalls from local and regional businesses and restaurants setting up stalls in Palmerston Road precinct, Avenue de Caen and Osborne Road, this year the festival is set to be bigger and busier than ever, with even more space earmarked for traders and a live acoustic music stage will host local bands and a range of brilliant family-friendly entertainment.
Councillor Ben Dowling, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Economic Development said, “This is always a fantastic community event that shows off the very best of our local food and drink businesses and traders.”
If you’re in the vicinity, or even if you’re not but you fancy a day trip, head on down to our seaside town and enjoy the vast range of mouth-watering food and drink. Sample the culinary delights at the stalls or even buy ingredients to take home and cook up a storm in your own kitchen. Just bring the whole family, empty shopping bags and a great big appetite.
Offering food from the South Coast, inspired by all corners of the world, you’ll be treated to spices, flavours and textures that will make your tastebuds tingle. Had your fill for lunch but can’t get enough of the festival? It’s time for some cooking inspo from the pros. Hang around and watch delicious dishes being prepared or pick up some new skills at exciting live displays from some of our most talented local chefs.
And it’s not the only food festival around this month. Love the idea of a day meandering round stalls absorbing the tastes and aromas of exotic cooking? Don’t we all… But if you’re not local to Southsea, you can still check out the Great British Food Festival 2022. It’s taking place all over the country – there’s bound to be an event near you. Check out the website to locate your nearest festival. Combining the nation’s love of great food and drink with some of the country’s most treasured locations, it’s an iconic celebration of world food with a British twist.
So, get together with loved ones and do breakfast, lunch and dinner outside. Find a local food fair and enjoy the most exciting and exotic flavours of the world on your doorstep.
