Fancy spicing up your menu? National Curry Week was celebrated between the 3th and 9th October, giving us the perfect chance to add a little heat to our pan as we honoured the nation’s favourite cuisine. We love it when things get steamy in the Quattro kitchen. From curry pastes to sauces and condiments, we’ve been bringing the Indian dream cuisine to dining room tables in homes, restaurants, schools and hospitals around the country. For over 10 years we’ve been supplying the food service sector, the NHS, the army, schools and colleges, as well as restaurants and high street chains with their curry ingredients. We’re excited to explore new and exciting spicy flavour sensations during National Curry Week and we fully supported the initiative’s main objectives: To celebrate the UK’s best loved food, to support the Indian restaurant industry and to raise money for charity.
‘Second to naan’ – they said it not us!
We all came together to mark the UK’s 24th National Curry Week. It was wonderful to have something to celebrate after such a difficult time in the catering and hospitality sectors. Our curry range is our pride and joy, with menu options including:
• Bengali tikka masala
• Jalfrezi curry sauce
• Kashmiri rogon
• Nepalese curry sauce
• Sri Lankan korma
• Indian madras
• Mango sauce
How did you celebrate National Curry week? Did you head down to your local curry house for a delicious dining out experience? Or maybe you got your pinny on and cooked up a storm in your kitchen using the National Curry Week recipe book.
When did National Curry Week begin?
It was founded in October 1998 by the late Peter Grove, a journalist with a passion for curry and a vision to drive awareness and appreciation of the Indian restaurant industry, and to raise money for charity at the same time.
For over two decades the initiative has raised the profile of Indian food, brought in hundreds of thousands of pounds to worthy causes and been loads of fun, for those working in the food industry and for those who love a top-class curry. They even served free curry from a double-decker bus one year – bring that back, we say!
Ever wondered what the UK’s favourite curry is?
We took a poll around the office and here’s our (completely unscientific) list of winners:
- Korma
- Phaal
- Tandoori
- Vindaloo
- Chicken tikka masala
Some like it hot
We’ve also heard it said (around the office) that our taste for hotter curries is increasing year-on-year. A large proportion of our team prefers hotter curries than when they first started eating Indian food, although mild curries, like a korma, are still popular.
So, if you missed the event, there’s still time to get the heat on and start cooking. Head down to the supermarket or local food stalls and stock up on fresh garlic, onion, cilantro, tomatoes and ginger root. And don’t forget the sugar, coconut milk and chicken stock as well as curry powder, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon and cayenne pepper.
Get down and get spicy. National Curry Week 2022 might be over; for us at Quattro, every week should be a curry week!🌶️
