It’s the big burger day – time to celebrate the staple of fast food, the glorious burger, which is fast transitioning from a humble, cheap, low-quality, high-fat meat snack into a culinary treat for meat gourmands.
Burgers are not what they used to be – the pioneer of fast-food is no longer resigned to high street chains with plastic seats and neon lights. Burgers have risen to the heights of food-lovers’ culinary delights. Whether you’ve grilled one up in the oven, sizzled a patty on the bbq, or ordered a bouji burger in a fancy restaurant, there are many ways to enjoy one of our greatest, juiciest, tastiest food creations.
How to celebrate International Hamburger Day
This is an easy one – just eat a burger!
But where and how? It’s a matter of choice, but we highly recommend sourcing some locally farmed meat and making your own. No pressure, but if you fancy a bit of home-made burger magic, here’s our favourite tried and tested recipe.
How to make your own burger
Ingredients
- 2lb organic high-grade minced beef
- 1 bunch fresh parsley
- 1 onion
- 1 egg
- 1 handful finely ground breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper
Method
Grind all the ingredients except the meat in a food processor. Tip the meat into a large bowl and add the ground mixture, mixing well with a large fork until it’s completely incorporated.
Divide the meat mix into medium sized patties and cook on an oven tray at 180 degrees or on the bbq. Serve in soft buns with all the trimmings – from cheese to onions, pickles and everyone’s favourite sauces, and host a banging burger bash.
Sauce for your burger
And don’t forget to top it off with your favourite sauce. Quattro Foods creates delicious sweet and savoury ready-to-use sauces to make your burger even more heavenly. We do classic meat sauces, but why not think outside the burger box and go for sweet and sour, tangy Asian sauces, fruity marinades or salsa with a kick?
Burgers for everyone
There’s nothing in the world quite so satisfying as that first bite of a juicy hamburger. But with rising numbers of food intolerances and dietary preferences, has the humble burger adapted to suit different tastes? It sure has! It’s a universal food that takes many forms.
Ever had a veggie burger? They are a sensational alternative for those who eat meat-free. Designed either to mimic a traditional burger with meat substitutes or fake meat, or bursting with veg, which is a different but equally tasty proposition.
History of the burger
The burger has been claimed by many, but there’s only one true origin. The burger was apparently discovered in Hamburg, Germany in 1881 by a gentleman named Otto Krause – a businessman in a hurry who wanted food, fast. It’s said that the hungry man placed a piece of grilled meat in between two pieces of bread – revolutionary thinking! – and thus invented the burger.
Where this story gets interesting – and controversial – is that it seems the Chinese have been doing this since 1045. I guess we’ll never know – and it doesn’t really matter. Whoever takes the credit, we’re thankful for the versatile, tasty and enduring greatest snack or meal, of all time.
Happy International Burger Day!
